What do you look for when searching for a yoga retreat?
These things come to mind:
- Excelent yoga teachers
- Stunning scenery for your daily practice
- Opportunity to (re)connect with yourself and nature
- Being a true soul healing haven
- Other offers such as massages, tours or spa/beauty treatments
- Plenty to do and see around
So I did my research and come up with these bucket list yoga retreats that I do want to go at least once in my life!
Here they are and let me know if you have been to any of them or plan to go!
1. Amansala, Mexico
A yoga retreat with beautiful white sandy beaches? Yes please! 🙂
Yogaworks offers week long retreats at Amansala in Mexico. There you can create your own package focused with a combination of yoga, massage ad healthy eating.
Start your morning with a Vinyasa flow session, followed by a healthy breakfast. And besides enjoying the beach and get a nice tan, there’s lots to see around too like the ancient Mayan ruins, or explore the hip town of Tulum.
There are also workshops, dance classes and spa treatments.
2. COMO Shambhala Estate, Bali
Set in tropical rainforest, the luxurious COMO Shambala Estate spa resort offers a true ‘Retreat for Change’ with resident experts including a yoga teacher, Ayurvedic doctor and residence dietician.
Besides yoga, it also offers healthy meals, massage sessions and beauty treatments.
3. Miraval Resort & Spa, USA
On the Miraval Resort & Spa website you can watch online videos of people practicing yoga overlooking the Sonoran desert which instantly makes you feel sooo relaxed!
At the retreat you can try Vinyasa flow, aerial yoga, a yoga-hiking hybrid for a cardio fix and other types of yoga for you to choose and try. There’s also a hiking and yoga combo at the beautiful foothills behind Miraval.
Besides yoga there’s also plenty to do like horseback riding, rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, waling tours, or just enjoying the wonderful spa treatments.
4. Kamalaya Koh Samui, Thailand
The location of Kamalaya Koh Samui is fabulous, secluded on its own private beach with the warmest water ever.
You can choose a personal yoga program, a group yoga retreat or simply join the daily schedule of complimentary Yoga classes.
Yoga packages include full room and board, a personal wellness consultation, daily classes and activities such as pilates, fit ball, tai chi, chi gong, pranayama, meditation, spirit dance, kayaking and hiking.
You also have full use of the resort’s steam cavern, swimming and plunge pools, and fitness center.
5. Yoga Shala, Mexico
Surrounded by a lush jungle, Yoga Shala offers comfortable space to stay, relax and practice yoga.
It offers Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga and Kundalini Yoga.
Staying within this tropical and enigmatic location you will discover the true nature connection of being in full contact with mother earth.
You can also enjoy massages, the white sandy beaches nearby or visit the town of Tulum.
6. Feathered Pipe Ranch, USA
Feathered Pipe Ranch is a rustic retreat center in the heart of Montana, surrounded by acres of forest and mountains.
From the cabins located in the mountains to the sweat lodge to the lake everything here promotes and inspires conscious living and deep internal work.
This is a true healing place where you can release everything you don’t need.
The Feathered Pipe Foundation, a registered US non-profit, focuses on the elevation of human consciousness and has supported and undertaken numerous humanitarian efforts.
A retreat includes a week-long of yoga classes and workshops, healthy meals and use of the amenities available such as sauna and hot tub.

7. Cal-a-Vie, San Diego
Cal-a-Vie in California offers a body, mind and spirit aaproach to their programmes.
The yoga program is diverse and interesting, with Vinyasa flow, Aqua Yoga, Power Yoga or Gentle Yoga.
Other offers they have are meditation classes, Tai Chi, morning hikes, Gyrotonics, a double-sized outdoor Olympic pool, metabolic conditioning and strength training, meditation and so much more.
Retreats also include daily massages and food tailored to each guest’s individual dietary preferences.
8. Jungle Bay Resort and Spa, Dominica
Jungle Bay Resort and Spa is located on the cliffs overlooking the ocean, and you stay in a tree house with its own outdoor shower. Sounds good to me! 🙂
Their yoga studio is made of reclaimed organic rock, and you can hear the sounds of the waves crashing below from anywhere on the property, giving you a proper soul healing and recharge time for yourself.
Jungle Bay offers daily yoga classes, private afternoon yoga or meditation sessions, and special yoga retreat packages.
You can also enjoy the spa and the relaxing therapies there.
9. Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, USA
The Kripalu Center offers a wide range of yoga programmes of 2, 3, 4 or days each.
Their Yoga programmes include amongst other types, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Restorative and Kundalini Yoga.
Other activities include kayaking, hiking, a meditative walk through a labyrinth and swimming.
Their rooms are simple and you can choose dorm-style rooms or a quiet room to yourself with a private bath, as you enjoy yoga, outdoor activities and healthy food in the down-to-earth, wellness-focused setting.
10. Flo-Yo at The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii
If you want to challenge yourself and try the crane pose on a floating paddleboard (they call it “Flo-Yo,” or “floating yoga”), the Fairmont Orchid will let you try it .
Balance, resistance, focus on the present moment and the calm Kohala Coast waters combine to make the perfect Yoga retreat.
Through the end of the month, the hotel offers daily yoga sessions—you get to choose whether you want to be on dry land or not.
They also offer snorkeling, kayaking, canoe paddling, stand up paddle boarding and a fitness centre with beautiful views of the Pacific ocean and pool.
