You can devote a lot of your time promoting your blog on social media but if your blog is not the right niche for you, all the promotion won’t make any difference.
So, this article is for all the bloggers out there that feel they’re not dedicating their time and efforts to the right niche or for new bloggers that want to choose the right niche for them.
Taking some time to think about your niche is key to a successful blog, so do it before you start buying domains and website hosting and building a WordPress blog, just to realise further down the road that the niche was a mistake.
To some, the niche to choose is a no-brainer. They know they love fashion, so fashion it is. Or they are passionate about travel, or cooking, etc.
But to others, is not that clear.
There are 2 key things you need to be aware when you’re trying to decide the perfect niche for you, and combining these 2 IS the key to the success of any blog, whatever the niche:
Let’s face it, you cannot fake passion. Either you have it, or you don’t.
You can try to choose a niche just because it is profitable in terms of Adsense or affiliate marketing, but the thing is, you’ll eventually get bored down the line.
Building a successful blog that will make money is possible, but will take a lot of motivation, patience and hard work. And the only way to keep it going is by writing (or filming) about something you LOVE!
The most successful bloggers are the ones you write about what they love and believe me, their readers or viewers can FEEL that passion! And that’s what attracts the right audience to the, like a moth to a flame.
Being passionate about your niche and your blog theme is also embracing your inner truth. Being a professional blogger is a lifestyle, so what’s better than making money from writing about what you love for the rest of your life?
So, think about it:
- What are your hobbies?
- What are you capable of talking about for long hours non-stop?
- What do you used to love to do when you were a child?
- What other blogs do you follow?
And if you think that your blog is not profitable, think again. Unless you’re writing for a single person living on the moon, all niches are profitable if you’re living your passion.
Follow the love and the money will follow.
The second thing to consider when choosing your niche is having experience in that niche.
One of the most precious things you can offer to your audience is first-hand experience in something.
For example, this blog combines my passion for social media with my experience of over 10 years in social media marketing, and I feel great that not only I can share my experience here and help other people, but also to help bloggers directly when they contact me.
Another example: is very different to write a blog about traveling to Malta never being there, and actually being there! Because ther might be hundreds of blogs about traveling to Malta, but no one will have the same experience than you!
Your views and opinions are unique. The places you go, the food you eat, the people you meet and interact, the experiences you have there, that’s what your audience wants to know about!
I’m not saying though do not start a blog in a niche if you don’t have experience! Sometimes you can even start the experience at the same time as the blog! For example you might decide to get fit and start at the same time a blog about your fitness journey and document it!
What I am saying is that real life experience is key, past or present. All successful bloggers in any niche have that in common.
So, take some time and think about what is your passion, what comes naturally from your soul and what do you have experience about or want to start having. Combine the two and ding ding ding, you have your perfect niche! 🙂
